Why Rent Yourself Out?

Jesus spoke of a person as a “house” and of unclean spirits as bad tenants. Matthew’s account is prophetic, in that Jerusalem is the “house” from which Jesus would evict evil (demonic) tenants and refurnish (heal his people). But his people would permit the “house” to remain vacant (not be filled with the Spirit of God). The “house” would be found empty and repossessed by evil tenants (demonic forces) and its state would end up worse than ever (Matthew 12:43-45).

That happened in AD70, and Luke’s account of the same, which was written not for Jews but for everyone, omits Matthew’s: “Even so shall it be to this wicked generation” (Luke 11:25). It was written to you as well. If Jesus has cleansed you, then you need to be filled with and fully occupied by the Holy Spirit.

Not to receive the Spirit of God is to allow the unclean spirits that was evicted to return, and seeing a “Vacant Possession” sign, to invite some even worse tenants to enter your life, occupy it, and trash it.

An empty house attracts vandals! God has purchased us through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus, and our best protection against the worst possible kind of spiritual vandals is a sign on us that proclaims “SOLD”! A new owner is moving in. Jesus is not seeking to “rent” you but to own you and to live in you — and he is not seeking after short-term rental but lifetime occupancy!
