What Happens When the Heart Stops Beating?

Self-gratification and endless regret are separated by a single heartbeat. Life lost in that short moment is irretrievable. Time is limited, and your time on earth just ran out.

Likewise, if you become separated from fellowship with other Christians, you will soon distance yourself from Christians and from the Lord Jesus. This is not instant, but it is inevitable. A coal removed from a fire quickly loses the heat that came from being in touch with the other hot coals.

Once out of fellowship, the world soon becomes more relevant to you than the church you once loved, and you will soon find yourself agreeing with those who are at home in the world and its values.

Names come to mind of many people I knew who were born again, water baptized and Spirit filled but are now back in the world and living sinful lives of the kind they once would not have thought possible. To them I say: “Come home!” Please! While you still can. Before it’s too late. Read Jeremiah 13:17, and hear the voice of God speaking to your soul. Then respond. You know how: there is but one way.

When you have confessed your sins to God through Jesus Christ and are back where you longed to belong, all memory of them will then be not only forgiven but also forgotten. How? Jesus bled and died to save you from your sins because God loved you. Is that not enough? If you believe so, thank God, praise Jesus, and be grateful. If not, there’s nothing more that I or anyone else — not even God — can say or do to help, and that’s beyond sad; it’s tragic.
