I love the ‘togethers’ in the New Testament. Romans 6:4 says we are “buried with” Christ in Baptism, and in Galatians 2:20 the Apostle Paul writes of being “crucified with Christ”. In Ephesians chapter 2 Paul writes of us being “quickened (made alive) together” and “raised together” and “seated together” with Christ.
In identifying ourselves spiritually with Jesus we experience the end to the old life and the beginning of a new life, a new power, and a new authority.
The man healed at the Beautiful Gate identified with the disciples Peter and John. He worshipped with them (Acts 3:8); he clung to them in relationship (Acts 3:11); and he stood with them in witness (Acts 4:14). Their common identity of all three was visible in the man’s miraculous healing, which was undeniable (Acts 4:16).
Your true identity is your new identity — who you are in Jesus Christ. So, don’t build your identity on sports stars, or film stars, or stars in business and commerce, but instead by relating to all that Jesus was and did on your behalf. If you are looking for a star to follow, look for The Bright Morning Star and our rising together to be with Jesus — together forever!
