Wait on the Anointing Actively, Not Passively!

I preach away from my home church nowadays, and never fail to be blessed when the presence of God becomes apparent in a meeting. Rarely do I get specific “words of knowledge” on the various needs of people (even though I spent a year as assistant pastor to the late Clark Taylor, the founder of Christian Outreach Centre, who was accurate in the spiritual gift of the word of knowledge.)

For me, signs follow the preaching of the word, when a gift of healing becomes evident in my left hand (I am naturally left-handed but in primary school back in the 1940s, was forced to do so with my right hand).

The gift came to me in the 1960s when Jesus laid his hand on my left hand while it was raised in praise during a meeting in Melbourne. The preacher was A C Valdez, Jnr. who had a gift of healing — in his case the right hand. I cannot ‘make’ the gift work, of course; it does when faith surges in me or while preaching, or rises in people who are listening. Valdez said that the gift worked through him when the faith of a congregation rose, but for me it works also when I am ministering to a single person.

We minister to best effect when doing so in the particular spiritual gift given us by the Holy Spirit, who distributes gifts according to His own will. When the presence of God comes in power, I feel the anointing in my left hand and then act accordingly.

It is so important that we “go with the flow” as Pentecostals put it. After being given a particular gift, we need to “wait on” that gift. Not do so passively, as in time, but actively, as Pastor Clark Taylor did on the spiritual gift of the word of knowledge, and taught so many to also do through “entwining” ourselves in the anointing, much as an upwardly growing vine does around the pillar of a veranda.

While doing so we “exchange” our inability for the Lord’s ability, and our lack of knowledge for His knowledge of the problems of those who will attend meetings. Clark Taylor discovered this many years ago, when he checked out the original Hebrew meaning of Isaiah 40:31 in Strongs Concordance.

Clark then “waited on the Lord” for hours before receiving words or names and “calling out” the sick and the injured. He then ministered to them by laying his hands on them so the Spirit of God could ‘flow’ from the Lord Jesus in him through him and into them.

World famous evangelist Oral Roberts used to pray, “Lord, let my hand be as the hand of Jesus Christ”. In Oral’s case, the “sign gift” worked through his right hand. The same Jesus who walked WITH his twelve disciples, now walks IN us, and by the power of the Holy Spirit ministers to the sick THROUGH us.

Are you seeking the Lord for a ministry of healing? Then set aside time every day to “wait” on God in prayer and by “entwining” yourself in the anointing and “exchanging” your own lack of power for His unlimited power! It is “waiting” as the eyes of servants did on their masters, waiting for the slightest gesture that indicated what was needed

You can do likewise –It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3. — Psalm 123.

Verse 1: Look Beyond and Higher Than.

Lift your eyes to the One who dwells in the heavens, beyond and above those who are self-satisfied and ignore you and the arrogant who look down on you (see verse 4);

Verse 2: Watch Closely For.

As the servant watches his master’s hand, so watch closely for God’s guidance and direction. Watch for the signal that God wants you to do something. Stay alert. Be attentive!

Verse 3: Pray Repetitively About.

Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have had more than enough.” We pray persistently, while God waits patiently, Then God acts suddenly! (Luke 18:1-8)

The New Testament Greek word “proskartereo” indicates constant attendance and instant response. Example: “Those who waited on [Cornelius] continually.” (Acts 10:7) Read also Acts 1:14, 2:42. 6:4. Romans 12:12,13:6. Colossians 4:2.

Bind yourself to God to exchange your weakness and to receive His strength, and to exchange your lack of knowledge for His revelation. Knowledge Isaiah 40:31 is the key:

“Yet those who wait (bind together by twisting) on the LORD shall renew [exchange] their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not get tired. They shall walk and not become weary.”

Active People rise up, run, and walk, but Passive People sit and wait. Some vines are climbers and some are just creepers — be one of the climbing kind!
