Paul’s second prayer in his letter to the church at Ephesus was that “the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”
(1) Would grant them, out of His glorious riches, to be “strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man”;
(2) That [through this] “Christ would dwell in their hearts through faith”;
(3) That they, being “rooted and grounded” [firmly established] in love, would then be able to comprehend, together with every holy believer, “the width and length and depth and height” [the vast, unlimited expanse] of Christ’s love — a love that passes knowledge; and
(4) That they may be “filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:14-19).
Paul winds up this expansive, heartfelt prayer with a doxology that elevates us above and beyond our comprehension. We are not meant to wrap our minds around his words but rather embrace them and allow them to lift us out of the realm of the mundane and into the glorious presence of God! It is an Up, Up and Away prayer that’s intended to elevate us to great heights on spiritual wings!
