The Truth that Makes Demons Tremble

We wouldn’t dream of bathing a baby in dirty water, so why do so many bathe their beliefs in “the traditions of men” formulated centuries after the time of Christ by bishops at a council presided over by an ungodly Roman emperor? (Did you know that Constantine erected a monument to the Sun God that had his face on it?)

The Truth surely deserves better. The biblical standard of any text is whether it is verifiable “in the mouth of two or three witnesses” (2 Corinthians 13:1). This principle has its origin in one of the earliest books in the Bible. Be guided by your church on teachings based on the Scriptures. Otherwise, choose rather to obey the teachings of the Lord Jesus and his Apostles.

That the LORD is One God is the greatest revelation in the Bible. Christians need to ensure that it remains a core belief. It is certainly that to Observant Jews, who recite the Shema in Deuteronomy 6:4 daily, repeatedly. Jesus, the observant Jew from Nazareth, did so. We know so from Mark 12:29-30. “Hear O Israel, the LORD our God is One LORD, the LORD is One.”

The Apostle James wrote to Jews, followers of Jesus Christ: “You believe that God is One? You do well.” (James 2:19) He adds that demons believe it — and shudder! Why so? Their knowledge and fear of it keeps them in a state of chaos!

“In (Jesus) dwells all the fullness of the Deity, bodily.” (Colossians 2:9) I don’t spend all my time wondering about who God is because the Bible makes His nature, his character and his attributes clear in the person of Jesus. I spend more time dwelling on the revelation of the Father in the Son. The doubting disciple Thomas perceived this and exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!”

If this seems a bit hard to grasp, it should be. Even minds renewed by the Word of God can find it difficult to grasp the magnitude of this truth one which if grasped will change the spiritual landscape of a believer’s life.
