The Things We Say!

It’s one of those days. I feel all at sea if you get my drift. A bit lost if you know where I’m at. A bit lacking in direction if you know where I’m coming from. It’s a bit hard to put into words but I’m sure you hear what I’m saying.

Seriously, we do say such things! (“May you live in interesting times” is a Chinese curse, so forget that.) We also cloud our language with euphemisms. Loved ones who have died are either “lost” or have “passed away”. Then there are meaningless clichés, which we should avoid like the plague.

And can anyone tell me why younger people begin their sentences with “So”? Like as if they are resuming a conversation, even if you have only just met them. Then there’s “like”. As in, “Like, I’d like to talk more, but like, I don’t much like talking, like.” Oh, like, just stop it! Have a nice day! I’ll get back to you. I’m out of here! Talk again soon!
