The Place and Power of Authentic Spiritual Gifts

Demonic spirits in the world lead sincere but gullible people astray through Ouija boards, séances, tarot card readings, and other non-Christian practices. The bible clearly forbids such pagan practices.

But for the sake of those who fear anything spiritually powerful, we must be equally clear about authentic spiritual gifts! (1 Corinthians 12:7) Jesus gives the Gift of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit then distributes spiritual gifts. Those who believe that the gifts continue to this day see the good results and those who don’t believe do not.

The apostle Paul encourages believers to earnestly seek — continue to zealously cultivate and value spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:31). It is true that Paul writes that love transcends spiritual gifts – as it does faith and hope also. But after concluding his discourse on love he resumes his theme on spiritual gifts with: “Follow after love, and desire spiritual gifts…” (1 Corinthians 14:1) What kind of racecar driver would have a four-cylinder engine installed in his Formula 1?

I need my work and witness of Jesus to be supercharged — and it is — thank God! I have a mate in ministry who is a Rev in more ways than religious, and signs follow him just as tyre skid marks follow racecars (or, in my Rev mate’s case, motorcycles).

Signs follow “those who believe” — not just some but all believers. Signs are natural in Christian life and ministry. Those who do not believe in spiritual gifts might look the part, but when it comes to effective ministry they are just “not in the race”.
