God, who is a Spirit, has revealed himself in Creation (Romans 1:20). Jesus said, “A spirit has neither flesh nor bones…” So, to become visible God formed Man from the dust of the earth and in His own image. He breathed life into the form, which then became a living soul (Hebrew “ruarkh”: living being).
God gave Adam dominion over everything in the air, on the land and in the sea. Of all creatures, only Adam was created in God’s image, and no other thing in Creation could be equal to the first man. (So much for the concept of an AI version.)
Adam was a “son of God” by natural creation (Luke 3:38). Every descendant of Adam and Eve is a reproduction of them. Jesus was God’s only begotten Son, and his father recognized him as such, saying that in him He was well pleased. God declared Jesus to be “the Son of God with power” by raising him from the dead! The image of God tarnished by the first Adam was perfected in Jesus, who was “the last Adam” (1 Corinthians 15:45).
The “new creation” in Christ is the recreated image of the invisible God in humanity. So, all other manmade images of God on earth are idols. Jesus is “the firstborn among many brethren”, and “the beginning of God’s [new] creation” (Colossians 1:15; Revelation 3:14).
God said of the Angel of His Presence, “My Name is in him” (Exodus 23:20-21), Speaking to Samson’s parents, the Angel said, “My name is Wonderful (Secret)”. But only the Son of God could say, “I have revealed your Name to them”! Name is Identity. God’s name also speaks of His attributes, His accomplishments, and of His character.
God is the Father of all who believe in, rely on, and entrust their lives to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. What a privilege it is to see the Father in the Son and to fellowship with both! (1 John 1:3)
