The Dormant Power of the Word Within the Word

I revere the Bible record but am glad that God interacts with us through the depths within its pages. We know this because we experience the “rhema”: the word that is being spoken, day by day — or should.

The “rhema” word — the word that God is speaking — leaps forth from within the “logos word — the word that God has spoken in the past. The “rhema” is hidden (so to speak) within the “logos” and when the Lord causes it to leap into the heart, a dormant, latent truth leaps out and we know in the heart what we knew in the mind or had stored in the memory.

We need to study the general word, the “logos”, for the truth that it reveals plainly. The “rhema” is the “daily bread” of specific revelation. Not a word that is superior to or replaces or diminishes the written Logos of The Bible. Not because we are not prepared to discipline ourselves to read The Bible for the inspired truth it clearly reveals; truth revealed thousands of years ago.

Hebrews 11:6 assures us that God not only exists but also that He interacts, and He rewards those who diligently seek Him. He interacts with us by responding to our faith. He not only speaks to our hearts but also hears the prayers of our hearts. In the Bible, people experienced God in many and various ways as they put their faith to work.

So, it is not the scriptures per se but the revelation of Jesus in them. Physical fitness comes with regular exercise. Not just from reading fitness books but also doing as they instruct. Spiritual fitness works likewise. If you exercise your faith by sharing the message of Jesus with others around you — you’ll soon see what God will do in your life. If people reject the message, then move on, as Jesus did from Nazareth, where no miracles had taken place, to Capernaum, where at least nine miracles did!
