All genuine Christians believe in the fundamental (foundational) doctrines of the Bible. However, it is our love for God, Jesus, and humanity, which motivates us. Not texts extracted from their biblical contexts and misused in attempts to justify violence and community chaos. We view reports of such things with horror! No lawbreaker will enter the kingdom of God but instead will be judged by God as unworthy of entry and punished accordingly. No excuse. No appeal. No exemption. No hope. Justice without mercy.
Australians are individualistic and so resist when we see freedoms restricted by heavy-handed autocrats and backroom bureaucrats. But “defying the system” by breaking long-accepted laws of the land is un-Christian, and so is undeserving of our support. Extremism should not be mistaken for patriotism.
Patriotism is not a dirty word, it’s the use of it to justify harm to others and social chaos which is unacceptable. Australians, on the whole, are friendly and hospitable. They eye those that don’t fit in with suspicion, and frown on out-of-character acts of stupidity shown by those who ought to know better. But minding one’s own business does not mean tolerating acts of criminality. Aussies are supportive of authority, and are well aware of the vital part played by police in the local community.
If you are predisposed toward aggressive protests, you will likely find yourself in the company of furtive, antisocial, anti government — read anti-democratic — plotters. Likewise, if you are not in mainstream Christianity, which has its varied currents, you could find yourself a lot worse off in a lifeless backwater of religious legalism or fanaticism.
Find a good, local church, and if it isn’t perfect, remember that it will not be bettered by a bad attitude or by carping criticism. Foundations are fundamental: they ground us on Bible doctrines which are sound and unchangeable. Churches, like houses, need to be firmly founded, fitly framed and fully furnished.
Bible foundations are buried deep so that we can build on them, not bury ourselves in them to the exclusion of building on them and furnishing the building’s interior. The Greatest Commandment is Love, and without it, no matter what gifts we may have, we are nothing but noise. (1 Corinthians 13:1)
