Jesus told his disciples, “I ascend to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God” He did not say “our” Father or “our” God, because that would have made them his equals. Although sons of the same Father, Jesus is the “only-begotten (unique) Son and the Firstborn Son, so we can never be his equals in privilege or position.
However, filled with God’s Spirit we can do the same things that our Lord did (John 14:12). The enemy of our soul hates our privileged status as children of the Most High God and our royal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and the productive outcomes that result from Divine directives.
Satan challenges us in every way possible. His first approach to newly born sons of God is to ask questions aimed at raising doubts as to whether we really are who God says we are. (His “Did God say?” to the First Adam and his “If you are the Son of God” in his temptation of the Last Adam after his 40-day fast in the wilderness of Judea.
Satan tempted the first Adam, who sinned, and the last Adam, who did not (Genesis 3; Matthew 4:3-6). A powerful surge of authority occurs when God’s word on our lips triumphs over temptations and provides further proof that proves that we are also sons of God (Luke 4:14).
We do not “try” to live the Christian life but instead allow Jesus to live his life through us by the power of the Holy Spirit in us. Christianity is not a religion but a lifestyle — a Way of Life that exceeds and excels all others!
