The Burning Question

“Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?” (Isaiah 33:14)

“The yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.” (Isaiah 10:27) The bondage shall be broken because of the blessing.

This is Isaiah’s final prophecy about the soon-coming Assyrian invasion. (In defending Jerusalem, the LORD would slay 185,000 Assyrians overnight.) Isaiah’s “burning question” is not directed to the invaders, however, but those who would cower in Jerusalem as God’s fire fell—so fiercely that Zion’s hypocrites would be terrified!
