“Seal the tomb” ordered Pilate,
Make it as sure as you can;
So none can enter and take away
The corpse of this crucified man.”
Seal it they did, a squad of them,
And a centurion standing by,
Posted guards around the clock to
Keep a watchful eye.
The rulers all slept well that night.
Two more quiet nights went by.
None could enter the guarded tomb,
What fool would even try?
They were wrong, we know, but even
The Lord’s disciples had no doubt;
That once the tomb was sealed that day,
There was no way in or out.
Unless, that is, what their Lord
So many times, had said, that
Three days after his death for all
He would rise back from the dead.
2000 years have passed since then,
From the day Jesus rose, I mean;
Some believe and many don’t,
Others are somewhere in between.
After Jesus left the tomb that day,
Pilate was shocked and said:
‘We killed him – I am sure of that.’
How come I’m not so sure he’s dead?
The hopes and dreams we all hold dear,
Such as life beyond the grave,
Not as spirits, wisping here and there,
But as immortals, forever saved.
That life for all who will believe,
Was guaranteed beyond all doubt,
The sealed stone only rolled aside to
Allow entry (Jesus had gone out).
Are you as sure as sure can be,
That Jesus did not rise?
If you’re only as sure as Pilate was,
Then you’re in for a big surprise!
I wouldn’t wait, if I were you,
For more proof than Pilate had;
The future’s sure as sure can be,
And for those who doubt, it’s bad.
