Supply and Demand

Jesus said: “Someone just touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” (Luke 8:46) This has also been translated: “Someone has just made a demand on my ability.” (The NT Greek word for ability, “dunamis” (from which we get dynamo, dynasty, and dynamite), conveys the idea of power in the sense of ability.

The supply of God’s healing power is such that one surge of it from heaven could instantly heal every person on Planet Earth. The reason why this does not happen is the limited demand made by people on God’s supply. Put simply, Human Demand is nowhere equal to Divine Supply.

This can be attributed to an overall lack of faith worldwide. We can liken this to supplying a powerful electric generator to a village in which few people possess electrical appliances. The Apostle Paul writes of “the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:19). This supply is unlimited, and in times of revival thousands of sick and injured people are healed.

The woman with the issue of blood was healed on the spot when by faith she drew on God’s supply in Jesus Christ. Many at the scene were crowding him, and touching him physically, but one woman alone reached out in faith and touched him spiritually.

The media is crowded with news items on the closure of coal-fired power stations, and in some areas, blackouts occur when demand exceeds supply. The reverse is sadly the case in regard to God’s supply — whether it be healing, or forgiveness, or provision, or whatever else. Many sick people were later healed by touching the Lord’s robe as this woman did (Luke 6:19). She set the precedent.

They, too, were healed, of course — as would people today if they were to access God’s unlimited supply of healing in Jesus Christ. If you only have faith, it’s enough to save you from your sins, heal your sickness or disease, and set you free from substance abuse.

Don’t take my word for it — take God’s Word for it and experience it for yourself. Reading the printed pages of the New Testament is one thing; experiencing the truth of the words of Jesus and the Apostles as they leap out of the pages and into your heart is another!
