“The LORD God has given me the tongue of the learned, so that I would know how to speak a word in season to the weary. Morning by morning he wakens my ear to hear as the learned.” (Isaiah 50:4)
While waking from deep sleep, we often hear the voice of God speaking to us from within us. This happens when we are coming out of an unconscious state into a semi-conscious one.
While in the first state, we become aware that portions of our dreams are now fading. If the dream was a spiritual one, the words of the Spirit of God often linger…
“Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.” (Jeremiah 1:9)
“Who has made man’s mouth? So now go, and I will be with your mouth, and will teach you what you shall say.” (Exodus 4:11, 12)
The Conscious Mind learns new information and stores it, which later enables us to recall those things we need for the routines in daily living.
The Conscious Mind cannot access the Subconscious Mind.
The Holy Spirit enables us to speak spontaneously, but only when our own spirit is free enough to express the revelation knowledge that is rising from within us.
I repeat, we are only as free in the Holy Spirit as we are in our own spirit. Knowing that the Lord is the source enables us to speak with confidence — and when necessary, with holy boldness!
Remember that the Conscious Mind stores important information learned by constant repetition. Repeat words as many times as you can because the more often you do, the more they will be stored in your unconscious mind and available for when they are needed.
The conscious mind has a direct connection with the mouth. If we forget a thing, we say, “It will come to in in a moment… It’s on the tip of my tongue!” Then we talk about a thing that’s very different – and soon after, what we had tried hard to remember pops up in our mind!
The thought was never really ‘on the tip of the tongue’ but somewhere between the Sub-conscious Mind and the Conscious Mind.
Speaking spontaneously from the spirit bypasses the mind and to the mouth. When we need a “word of knowledge” we say, in faith, “The Spirit of God will reveal it to me in a moment or two…” Soon after he does, not from stored memory but from the Holy Spirit in our own spirit — direct to the mouth and through it in words that then go out to others (1 Corinthians 2:11, 12).
I say again, revelation knowledge comes from the Spirit of God, in the human spirit. This is not stored knowledge, which comes from memories accumulated, but knowledge revealed to our spirit by God, who knows all there is to know about everything.
In this sense, we “know all things” by the Spirit of God, who reveals what is needed by a “word of knowledge” (1 Cor. 12:8)
• Speaking spontaneously by the Spirit means that our own spirit needs to be free enough to express the knowledge the Holy Spirit is beginning to reveal, whether through a “word of knowledge”, a prophecy, or other form of divinely inspired utterance. I repeat, we are only as free in the Holy Spirit as we are in our own spirit. Over time, we learn to trust the Source of what we are hearing enough to speak it aloud confidently and with divine authority.
Speaking spontaneously from the spirit bypasses the mind and goes to the mouth. When we need a “word of knowledge” we say, in faith, “The Spirit of God will reveal it to me in a moment or two…” Soon after he does, from the Holy Spirit dwelling in our own spirit direct to our mouth and through it to others in words (1 Corinthians 2:11, 12).
Revelation knowledge comes from the Spirit of God, who informs our spirit. This is not stored knowledge, which comes from memories accumulated, but knowledge revealed to our spirit by God, who knows all there is to know about everything.

I cannot overstate enough that we can only be as free in the Holy Spirit as we are in our own spirit. Over time, we learn to trust the Source of what we are hearing enough to speak it aloud with divine authority.
“It will come to me in a moment” is a confident statement, based on the fact that the knowledge in our subconscious mind will come to our conscious mind once we stop trying to recall it. “God is speaking to me about…” is similar but is stated in faith believing that God will put a “word of knowledge” from His Spirit in our spirit for us to speak!
• But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and know all things.” (1 John 2:20)
• “The same anointing teaches you all things…” (1 John 2:27)
• “The Comforter, the Holy Spirit …shall teach you all things, and shall remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
As my mother warned me so many times, “Think before you speak!” (I put her warnings down to my thoughtless words, rather than to any boyhood prophetic training!) Still, there are times when we need to speak not after but before we think. This because, as the disciple Peter found out, in a dangerous situation, our first thoughts are daring but our second thoughts can be downright dangerous! (Matthew, chapter 14.)
