Sleepless kings in ancient times had chronicles read to them of their reign and great deeds (Esther 6:1). The chronicles recorded their accomplishments but not their failures. What king would want his failures read out to him at bedtime? (What servants would risk their necks reminding him of them?)
The chronicle of King David’s reign omits his sin of adultery and premeditated murder, which the first book of Kings records in detail. (The books of Kings are histories, not chronicles.) I’m sure you’re glad that your sins were blotted out from God’s records the moment you believed that Jesus died to save you from them! The chronicle of your life shows nothing sinful. So, you sleep well at night, knowing that the record of your life is not only an open book but also a clean one.
If this is not so in your experience, then turn away from sin and ask God to forgive the things you’ve done in life that you ought not to have done and know it. It’s not a matter of ‘trying’ to be good or of ‘turning over a new leaf’, but rather of believing that Jesus died for you and of declaring him to be the one that you are willing to live for from now on. Heaven or Hell awaits you, and which you will live in endlessly will result from your choice.
Jesus said: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no one comes to the Father except through me.” There’s no other way (and in our hearts, we all know that). With the heart we believe, and with the mouth we confess into salvation.” (Romans 10:10)
According to an old saying: “We are known by the company we keep.” Whether you will spend it forever in Hell in the company of Hitler, Stalin, Mao and so many other demon-possessed murderers; or in Heaven with Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, the Lord Jesus. in the company of believers in Jesus the Messiah will result from the decision that you make, right here, right now.
