Seven Amazing Lessons from an Unnamed Woman

1. Her miracle came as the result of an unprecedented, personal faith initiative, in that the woman determined where, how, and when it would take place. All these while in a crowd through a simple touch of faith.

2. The unexpected miracle of healing apparently surprised Jesus, whose thoughts were on his journey to the home of a man’s dangerously ill daughter.

3. The miracle came as the result of a bold act of desperation driven by twelve years of medical visits and failures that had left her penniless.

4. The miracle, though spectacular in nature and transformational in impact, took place privately between Jesus and the woman in a crowded public place.

5. The miracle took place when the super entered the natural need. The super needs the natural to work in as much as the natural needs the super for a miracle to occur.

6. The miracle was unprecedented; in that it introduced the idea of Personal Responsibility to a people whose religion rightly elevated Divine Sovereignty.

7. The miracle shows that a fast act of faith in one person may require a steady attitude of faith in another. In delaying Jesus, the woman’s desperate act required Jairus, the father of the 12-year-old girl, to keep on believing, even — especially — when the news arrived that she had died.

The New Testament has a number of instances where “a certain man” or “a certain woman” enters ‘centre stage’ briefly and leaves just as quickly. This encourages us to believe that miracles from the Lord are not only for those who are well-known but also for those whose names are unknown, which is most of us.
