If you read Exodus 35:21 and 36:2, you will find the words “whose heart was stirred”. The Hebrew word means stirred “to lift up and to carry; to bring”. Not long out of Egypt, God’s people did this to furnish the tabernacle of Moses.
The Egyptians had given the departing people of Israel precious jewellery and fine fabrics prior to their exodus. They gave them to those among them who were gifted artisans to be fashioned into furnishings. They “lifted their gifts” and, with willing hearts, carried them to where they could be used for the LORD.
Paul encouraged Timothy to “stir up” the gifts that were in him, for in so doing they the church he was leading could be ‘furnished’. Your gift can do the same if you are willing to “lift” it so that God can use it to furnish your own local fellowship!
Study Exodus chapters 35 & 36 and you’ll get the picture, and when you do, encourage church members to do likewise. As they respond, you’ll not hear those pitiful words: “I was going to prophesy in the meeting, but I thought that it was only me.”
Each and every person’s gift matters in a meeting — so urge one and all to lift that gift!
