Life in Big Brother’s House

An odd mix of people with varied personalities, all together in Big Brother’s House and trying hard to cope? No, not the TV series — the Church! Hang on, it’s scriptural!

1. JESUS IS OUR BIG BROTHER

“Both he who cleanses and we who are cleansed all have one Father, which is why Jesus is not ashamed to call us his brothers, saying, I will declare your name to my brethren.” Hebrews 2:11, 12.

2. WE ARE IN BIG BROTHER’S HOUSE

“Christ is a Son over his own house, and we are that house” (Hebrews 3:6)

We are the house of Jesus the Son, not the house of Moses the servant.

3. IN THIS BULLYING WORLD, EVERYONE NEEDS A BIG BROTHER, and the Biggest Brother of all is our Lord Jesus Christ.

4. IN THIS UNSAFE WORLD, EVERYONE NEEDS A SAFE HOUSE, and the safest house is the one being built by God’s Son. It is his Church.

5. IN THIS UNBELIEVING WORLD, EVERYONE NEEDS SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN, and the one person we can all believe in is Jesus Christ.

6. “TOUCH ME AND YOU TOUCH MY BIG BROTHER!”. Maybe you wished you had one on that first day of secondary school and you didn’t. Or when you looked for somewhere to hide and couldn’t find it. The good news is that you’ll be secure in the “body of Christ, which is the church”. It’s a spiritual body in which you will be secure and through which the authority and power of the Lord Jesus will protect you.

7. YOU WILL NEVER BE EJECTED FROM YOUR REAL BIG BROTHER’S HOUSE. You will not have to stay, but why on earth would you wish to leave? Jesus has provided the safety and security you need now and will need forever. It’s a house in which you can grow to spiritual maturity. A house where every believer is equal, since all were once sinners and now are all saved. Your body will age but your new, inner self will not because it cannot because it has been purpose-built for eternity.

Now all you need do is enter Big Brother’s House, which you can do by confessing your sins to God in prayer, and by asking Jesus to be your lifelong Lord and Saviour. Then find a real Christian — everyone knows one — and go with him or her to their church. Tell others that Jesus is now your Lord. Get baptised by full immersion in water. Then learn how you can be filled with the Holy Spirit, so you can be led by Him to do as God directs. Big Brother extends his invitation to you and all your loved ones. Will you accept it?
