Paul the apostle writes of some with consciences that had been “seared, as with a hot iron” (branded, cauterized, deadened) by repetitive sins (1 Timothy 4:2). Nowadays, consciences are desensitized by war games played over and over on computers and handheld devices. How many of these proxy killings are committed by children daily?
Many years ago, I ate a pizza and got food poisoning. While in a feverish state I found myself vowing: “I will not be entertained by people killing people.” There was no link between poisonous pizza and viewing war movies that I could think of at the time. Then it was war movies; nowadays it’s war games. I am not a pacifist and would do all I could to defend my nation and its people from enemy invasion, but killing time killing virtual people in war games could accurately be termed repetitious recreational destruction.
