“But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.” (Numbers 14:21) Only the One True God can swear by His own life! The “evil report” brought back by ten of the twelve prices would prevent their unbelieving generation from entering the Promised Land. Despite their unbelief, God told Moses that the whole earth would one day be filled with His glory! What great experiences those people missed out on because of their unbelief.
In response to Moses’ prayer of intercession, the LORD pardoned the children of Israel and declared that He would allow nothing to prevent an ultimate, worldwide manifestation of His glory.
We serve a living God, not a dead one! A dead god is an idol chiselled from stone or carved from wood (Jeremiah 10:1-16) Idols are useless. They cannot hear, they cannot see, and they cannot talk (Isaiah 40:18-25). Belief in an unresponsive, do-nothing god that was never alive in the first place ends in fatalism.
If God seems dead to some it’s because they have no real evidence in their lives that He lives. God to them seems remote and impersonal. But the Bible tells us that God not only exists, but that He “rewards those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
How long is it since you interacted with God by praying to Him in the name of Jesus Christ, expecting that you would receive an answer? How long since you saw any real evidence of God’s activity in your family, your health, or your finances?
God will interact with you as you exercise the faith that you have. He is not an absent Higher Power who wound up the universe like a clock and left it ticking, eventually to run down. We experience His reality through what He does for us.
No other god can be known and experienced in this way. We know Him more and more as we experience His amazing grace and power in so many ways!
