Imagine that the Resurrection scorned by those who hate God and doubted by revisionist theologians, has taken place, and that those who in life rejected the Lord Jesus are now standing before him to be judged. It’s time for all to give an account as to why their sins remain unpaid.
Murderers of women and children and those who sinned wilfully as though this day of reckoning would never come, stand helplessly as their sins, some known but many secrets are revealed to everyone. The self-righteous stand dumbstruck, unable to believe that their charitable deeds, though beneficial to others, count for nothing when offered as a substitute for the only offering acceptable: the sacrificial blood of Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.
Most would have dismissed the possibility of a Day of Judgement, not to mention their hidden sins exposed to all. But now everything they ever said or did that was recorded is now revealed. Even their secret thoughts. Nothing has escaped scrutiny, and no person will escape judgment. No defense. No appeal. No mercy.
Think of this next time you see a TV program showing someone who has been ripped off by an unscrupulous tradesman or sexually assaulted by a family member who thought no one would ever know. But now they do. Everyone does. This is how we cope with life’s injustices.
If the perpetrators repent of their sins before dying and turn to Jesus, God will forgive them for the sake of His Son’s death on their behalf. They should put things right where possible. We will rejoice with them because we also sinned and were forgiven (Isaiah 55:7).
The alternative is to face the Lord Jesus on the Day of Judgement, in which case there’s nothing we could ever do to them now that could compare to the exposure, humiliation, and terror of God’s justice and judgement. They will be lost. Hopelessly lost. Irretrievably lost.
This is how we deal with the terrible things we see and hear in the media. “Knowing the terror of God we persuade men.” There is a God in heaven, and He has “appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through that Man He has appointed. He made this judgment absolutely certain by raising Jesus back to life.” (Acts 17)
Yes, Jesus the Saviour who rose from the dead will soon be Jesus the Judge of everyone except those who believed in him and so were forgiven. Until then, Jesus will answer many of the questions that have arisen in your mind. And on Judgement Day, seeing Jesus judge those who refused or rejected him will explain the questions that everyone everywhere ever imagined.
You’ve no doubt missed a bus or even a flight sometime, but having missed the onetime First Resurrection will be beyond tragic. Turn to Jesus now!
