God’s Power is Startling!

It’s the storm season in and around Brisbane and viewing the many bolts of lightning makes me think of the influence in our lives of buildups in the atmosphere. If we wish to see God strike sickness, we likewise need a buildup of indignation at what Satan is doing to people around us. Jesus said, “I saw Satan as lightning fall from heaven!” We see something of the same when God’s power strikes and destroys the works of the Devil.

The great healing evangelist John Lake lost so many of his children through illness that a spirit of indignation developed in him against all forms of sickness. It built up in him in much the same way as a storm develops through pressure in the atmosphere. When he encountered illness’ his indignation found release through the anointing on his life, and the power of the Spirit of God struck sickness like divine lightning and brought healing into the lives of untold thousands.

My friend Alan Dean and I were over France on a flight from Frankfurt to London when a bolt of lightning struck the aircraft we were in and knocked out the comms. The aircraft then flew so low that its flashing lights lit up houses below us clearly.

“Nature abhors a vacuum.” So too does God, and so too should we. Lightning superheats and separates the air, and when it comes together again it creates thunder. I like the thunderous praise that takes place in a meeting when God does an amazing miracle. God spoke to His Son Jesus and “some said it thundered”. Thunder tells us that lightning has struck and seeing the lightning bolts we seek safety inside our homes.

When overhead, thunderclaps are like heavenly drum rolls! When our children were young, I used to tell them that thunder may be due to angels rearranging the furniture in heaven. Now I say it’s like God in Heaven rearranging the lives of people here on earth.

We need more startling bolts of God’s power and thunderclaps, so that His presence can be seen and felt above and around us; not just seasonally but all year round!
