Fight or Flight?

The Bible doesn’t record the name of Lot’s wife. We remember her only because she looked back while escaping from the doomed city of Sodom. Many years later, Jesus summed up the danger in looking back. He said: “Remember Lot’s wife.” (Luke 17:32)

In times of fright, we have a choice: Flight or Fright? But when the Lord says, “Leave now!” — it’s time to get going! Fright paralyzes (which is why police officers shout so loudly when forcing their way into houses to make arrests). Flight focuses on our need for immediate security in a safe place.

Don’t love what you’re leaving! If you do, you’ll be tempted to look back at what you’ve escaped from. Hebrews 11:15 stresses the danger of doing this. Instead, look forward to the return of Jesus, and in the meantime, be happy in the spiritually safe place that God has provided for you in Jesus your Lord.

Remember that Jesus is your Saviour. To be “saved” means “to be made safe” and there’s no safer place anywhere than “in Christ” — in both relationship and fellowship!
