Differences Between Christian Values and New Age Practices

Those who identify themselves as New Age Choose Options and reject Absolutes. They seek after Quality rather than Quantity. They prefer Spiritual to Material, and are attracted to Psychics more than Physics.

They believe in Reincarnation but dismiss The Incarnation. They are more Informational than Industrial. They are Consumers more than Producers. They prefer Recycling to Manufacturing, and Conservation to Development. They see themselves as being Spiritual rather than Religious.

A pseudo-spiritual New Age person may be more open to the idea of the Holy Spirit than one who is religious, and may readily respond to genuine spirituality, e.g. the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They may also be drawn to The Way — as the lifestyle of the first Christians came to be called.

The preaching of the Cross is the Church’s central message; however, people may be attracted to spiritual manifestations (as they were on the Day of Pentecost), and the Gospel Message can then be declared. Peter linked the existing tongues spoken by Galileans on that day to Joel’s prophecy, and then applied a prophecy of David (Psalm 16:10).

Once, when I was concerned over the motives of some who came to our church and seemed preoccupied with the spiritual manifestations more than the Gospel message, the Lord asked me: “Why did Moses turn aside to see the burning bush?” I answered: “Because he was curious?” “Then don’t worry about why they come,” He replied. “Your job is to see that they take off their shoes when they get here.”
