The two most important words in life are Yes and No. Both are single syllables; both are unequivocal. Jesus said that Yes should mean that, exactly, and that No the same. He added, “Anything additional is sin.” Meaning that anything added to a Yes or a No diminishes our integrity and our authority.
Yes agrees, “No” disagrees. “Yes” permits, “No” denies. Does Jesus save? Yes. Does he heal? Yes. Jesus Christ is God’s Answer to our prayers. He is also God’s “Amen” to them. “Amen” means, “So be it!” We say “Yes” to God’s promises and see Jesus as His “Amen” — His approval of them and His application of them to us!
The Apostle Paul encourages us in 2 Corinthians 1:15-20: “For all the promises in [Christ] are Yes, and in him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” Our Lord Jesus is God’s Yes and Amen, not only to us but also through us in our affirmation of it! I say again: Not only to us but through us. As in the army signal response “Roger wilco”.
Pentecostals of yesteryear were known for shouting “Amen!” when preachers made sound points during their sermons. Preachers saw Amens not as interruptions but as affirmatives!
How long since you added an Amen! to your Yes on receiving a promise from the Lord while reading your Bible? Too long? It’s not too late to add one — loudly, knowing that God loves not only a cheerful giver but also an agreeing exclaimer!
Roger, Wilco. Out!
