Psychology came into vogue in the late 19th century. But the root cause of guilt is sin. The “fig leaf cover up” thing; the “blame-game, devil-made-me -do-it” excuse, and a subsequent loss of good relationship with God — all these are all recorded in Chapter three of Genesis: The Book of Beginnings.
The choice by Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit had terrible consequences and is still behind most of wrongs in this world. Humanity is sliding rapidly into guiltless depravity and open rebellion against God, and against all those who serve Him through the Lord Jesus Christ.
I was born in 1940 and so can recall the Romantic Era of the 1950s, which was typified in the silky-smooth voices of crooners such as Perry Como and groups such as The Platters. But then, in the 1960s, Sex “raised its ugly head” (as we used to say) in the Sexual Revolution, which was reduced to the word SEX — the letter “S” symbolizing the Snake, the letter “E” for Experience, and the letter “X” for Beware! (My own, considered definition.)
Flagrant indecency was revealed at Woodstock, and the Beatles and their ilk introduced a mystical guru who embodied Eastern religions. Freudian-based psychology attributed the problems of Western thinking to sexual misunderstanding. Its practitioners sought to replace the proven Judeo-Christian values of the Western World with esoteric New Age ideas, which a friend of mine in the ’80s would memorably referr to as “Hairy Fairy” thinking!
The choice is to seek help from an accredited psychologist or psychiatrist and be helped emotionally or mentally. Or to God through Jesus and have your spirit regenerated on the spot and your mind renewed over time by reading the Bible.
The choice is yours to make, of course, but unlike the very first couple, who made the wrong choice, I hope that yours will be guided by looking beyond Time into Eternity, because the choice you make in this life will determine where you will end up in the next one.
The limited lifespan you are now living, or eternal life with God? One filled with endless self-recrimination, or one in which what is now forgiven will never be remembered? Indecision is a passive decision not to make one. So, given the only rational choice between Heaven and Hell, make it now!
