More than 30 years ago, the Lord Jesus spoke to me, saying: “The time is coming when it will be unusual for a person not to be a Christian.” He was referring to Redland City, near Brisbane, in particular, but maybe beyond in general.
“Your people shall be willing in the day of your power.” (Psalm 110:3) In the 1970s people came to meetings from long distances, many times a week, to experience the anointing and presence of the Lord in gatherings of people hungry for His Word and thirsty for His Holy Spirit.
Over the past 40 years we have seen the power of God replaced by disco style, flashing lights, smoke and thumping music. There’s a place for such things in reaching young people. Most mega-churches have midweek meetings in which the young receive sound, biblical instruction.
I long for the days when people will again crowd buildings having a desire for the reality of the presence of Jesus in the power of the Spirit of God. Not power just for the sake of power but for what that power will do in the lives of people: saving them from their sins, healing their bodies, and setting them free from drug and alcohol addiction.
The damaging effects of the false Woke will disappear when the genuine Awake arrives. We cannot induce the moving of the Spirit of God, but we can pray much more, and then having done all that we can do, expect to see the Lord pour out the Holy Spirit. Not just in a repeat of the 1970s outpourings but in a new and even greater outpouring nationwide.
Those who were born around the turn of the century are now in their ‘young adult’ years spiritually, and if these years turn out to be anything like my years as a young adult, then nothing will be impossible to them spiritually because nothing was to me physically back in those years! I will turn eighty-six soon, and by the grace of God will be able to “run with the young ones” (as evangelist Ruckins McKinley prophesied over me). I might not have the stamina of a physically young man to pray for long lines of sick people, but the Lord knows that and at times falls in power onto entire meetings.
So, in short, “expect the unexpected” and prepare — as best you can — for the unprecedented! It is coming but now is the time to prepare yourself as Psalm 110:3 declares, so that you will be one of the prepared when the day of God’s power arrives! I wouldn’t miss it for the world!
