Jesus had a choice whether to die or not die. God knew that he would make the right choice, but that did not stop Jesus from agonizing over it. It’s the same with us: we know what we must do when faced with the agony that comes with hard choices.
At such times, prophecies over us in the past are encouraging. Jesus well knew the Old Testament prophecies that had spoken of his death and resurrection, and they surely helped him to submit to the will of his Father, despite his agony of soul.
In a similar context Paul encourages Timothy to “war according to the prophecies that have [been spoken over] you.” (1 Timothy 1:18) God had given Paul prophecies that said Timothy would make it, but like Jesus, Timothy still had to “fight a good fight” with all his might! So too must we.
So, make the right choice, knowing that God knew that you could make it through. Otherwise, why would He have said you would? He took into account everything that you would need to overcome in life, and then factored into that your willingness to overcome it through prayer and sacrificial living.
When He said that you would, it was because He knew that you could. So, in His faith you can be certain that you will. The Eternal God always was, always is, and always will be, ahead of Time. (Acts 15:18) It’s just that we have to live in and through it. Our Lord Jesus has pioneered the way, so let’s “keep on keeping on” while there’s still time!
