bite you. Non-Christians call this Karma. The Bible tells us that life is more a cycle than a circle. It says that we reap what we sow. When a farmer sows good seed he reaps a good crop.
Likewise, if we do good things for others, we receive good things from others. We get out of life what we put into it. What we do for others is later seen in our own lives. Not because of karma but the keen interest of a loving God.
“Don’t be misled: no one makes a fool of God. Whatever you sow you will reap. Sow self-indulgence and you will reap moral and physical corruption. Sow to your spirit and you will reap everlasting life. Don’t get tired of doing good; you will gain if you don’t give up.”
“Do good to everyone when the opportunity arises—and even more so to those who share the same faith.” (Galatians 6:7-10) “Sow little and you’ll reap little; sow generously and you’ll reap generously. Give as your heart prompts—not because you feel you have to or others think you should. God loves a happy giver! He will give you more than enough so that you’ll have plenty to give to others. God doesn’t just add—He multiplies!” (2 Corinthians 9:7-10)
The planets in our universe move in circles—we call them orbits—around the Sun. But on Planet Earth most things move in cycles. “The wind goes toward the south and turns around toward the north; it whirls about continually, and returns again, according to its circuits. All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; the rivers return to the place from which they came.” (Ecclesiastes 1:6-7)
There is the cycle of rainfall (precipitation), river flow and cloud formation (condensation), which then again results in precipitation.
The Preacher (which is the meaning of Ecclesiastes) saw all this as boringly predictable. After experiencing everything there was to try in life, King Solomon, the writer of the Book, was jaded.
When you’ve been there, done that: read the book, seen the movie and worn the T-shirt, what else is there? Little did the writer realize that ‘boring’ things make life a blessing. Predictable rainfall cycles and cycles of sowing and reaping are natural indicators of spiritual blessings. such as giving and receiving, forgiving and being forgiven.
Thank God that He did not make our world to “bite us” but to bless us—if we work with it rather than against it. And through it all, God is Light, God is Love, God is Good, and never changes because “In Him, there is no shadow of turning.” God never changes, and so casts no shadows!
